Tottenham
Hotspur manager Andres Villas-Boas has revealed that talks are in
progress between Gareth Bale and Spurs about a new contract for the
forward.
As
reported by Marca, Real Madrid are ready to make a world-record offer
for the Welshman, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester
United.
Meanwhile,
Villas-Boas has already stressed the fact that the London club are not
interested in selling Bale regardless of the size of the offer with the
view of having him around for a much longer period.
“There
was contact between the club and his agent last year and there is
ongoing contact between the club and his agent,’ Villas-Boas said.
“Talks are ongoing but that doesn’t mean there is an agreement.”
Bale
signed a new contract with Spurs in 2012, which keeps him with the
White Hart Lane club until 2016 but that has not discouraged top clubs
from queuing for the forward.
“We
renewed his contract at the beginning of last season, if you remember,
and it’s something that is being dealt with by the chairman and the
agent.
“At the moment we’re confident that the player is under contract at Tottenham, as was done last year,” he continued.
“It’s something that we’re speaking about, but there aren’t any developments.”
After
scoring 26 goals for Tottenham last season, the former Southampton
winger has become one of the most sort after player in the Premier
League.
